What this journey is

Lemosho approaches from the west, opening with quieter forest and the wide Shira landscape before joining the southern circuit. The additional trekking day is the point: more time at altitude, more room to enjoy the mountain and a less compressed summit build-up.

Your Journey, Day by Day

A guide to the shape of the trip. The final itinerary is confirmed before travel and adapts to season, conditions and your pace.

  1. Day 1 — Arrive and prepare

    Private transfer, hotel check-in, equipment review and guide briefing in the Kilimanjaro area.

  2. Day 2 / Trek 1 — Western trailhead to Mti Mkubwa

    Complete park formalities and begin through forest to the first designated camp.

  3. Day 3 / Trek 2 — Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1

    Move from forest into heath and moorland as the wider Shira landscape opens.

  4. Day 4 / Trek 3 — Shira 1 to Shira 2

    Use a measured day across the plateau, with pace and any acclimatisation walk decided by the guide.

  5. Day 5 / Trek 4 — Lava Tower to Barranco

    Climb higher during the day, then descend to Barranco to sleep lower and report symptoms honestly.

  6. Day 6 / Trek 5 — Barranco to Karanga

    Cross the Barranco section under guide instruction and continue to Karanga.

  7. Day 7 / Trek 6 — Karanga to Barafu

    Reach high camp, organise equipment, rest and review summit-night decisions.

  8. Day 8 / Trek 7 — Summit attempt and Mweka descent

    Proceed toward Stella Point and Uhuru Peak only while health, timing and conditions remain acceptable, then descend to Mweka Camp.

  9. Day 9 / Trek 8 — Mweka Gate and hotel

    Complete the descent, sign out and return to the confirmed hotel for recovery.

  10. Day 10 — Depart or extend

    Transfer to the airport or continue with safari and Zanzibar arrangements.
